THE CENTER FOR THYROID
& PARATHYROID
SURGERY

MISSION STATEMENT

The Center for Thyroid & Parathyroid Surgery of the New York Head & Neck Institute is a multidisciplinary team of regional experts in the fields of Head & Neck Surgery, Endocrinology, Pathology, Cytopathology, Nuclear Medicine, and Radiology. Special care and treatment of thyroid related voice disorders is also provided by our skilled Voice Pathologists. The center serves as a vehicle for patients to obtain up-to-date information concerning the management of thyroid and parathyroid disease in a clear, accessible manner from a team of recognized experts.

Our team approach assures that patients receive compassionate and comprehensive surgical and medical care in close collaboration with referring and consulting physicians as well as other health care providers. Our team provides patients with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their diagnosis and treatment. The Center also helps coordinate community outreach programs for patient education, cancer support groups, early nodule & cancer detection screening clinics, teaching and research. It is our philosophy to treat cancer at its earliest stage to achieve the lowest complication rates and the highest possible long-term cure rates.

If surgery is required, Dr. Kuriloff, the Director of the Center, will guide you through every step of the treatment process. Dr. Kuriloff has vast experience, having performed over 2,000 thyroid and parathyroid surgeries in his career. He has perfected the art and science of his surgical practice and has adopted the latest advances in the field. Dr. Kuriloff has been able to achieve the greatest degree of thyroid /tumor removal possible which can reduce both the amount of radioactive iodine needed for post-surgical treatment and may reduce the incidence of cancer recurrence. Parathyroid surgery can now be performed through a minimaly invasive approach using a "mini-incision" and biochemical confirmation of cure utilizing rapid intraoperative parathyroid hormone assessment.

Dr. Kuriloff was cited in the New York Times Magazine as a 2008 Super Doctor, representing the top 5% of New York City physicians in his specialty.

He was also cited in the 2008 edition of New York Magazine's "Best Doctors," http://nymag.com/bestdoctors/
